Principal’s Welcome

Sheyes founder Juanita Walker is a native Miamian, who graduated from Florida International University. She is a mother of three, who enjoys traveling, reading and interior design. Ms. Walker had a stellar 33-year career, serving our community  working at the City of Miami Police Department. She rose through the ranks from being an officer patrolling the streets of liberty city to a retired major in 2007. Ms. Walker retired as one of the highest ranking African American females in the departments history.

During her law enforcement career, Ms. Walker sought out additional opportunities to go back to her community. She decided that providing top quality childcare was an important way to serve. In 1988, she opened Sheyes #1 located at 6043 NW 6th Court. As the community's need for quality daycare grew, Ms. walker responded by opening three additional locations in Brownsville and Liberty City areas.

The most recent facility is Sheyes Elementary School, which serves children in kindergarten

through 5th Grades.

Sheyes Elementary school provides a safe, nurturing, healthy and happy environment to promote your child's natural curiosity and desire to learn. Sheyes hires teachers who are capable, caring and who possess values that enable them to be role models for our students. We accommodate children from diverse cultural, linguistic and social economic backgrounds. Our classrooms ratios are small for a better

quality education.

Mission

Sheyes of Miami’s mission is to provide affordable learning centers and elementary school services to diverse families within the Miami-Dade community. We are committed to assisting our families and students by showing our dedication and devotion in shaping their lives. We provide a wide range of age-appropriate learning opportunities for children.

Our services will help your children develop intellectually, socially, and emotionally, while also learning the physical skills necessary for day-to-day life, and life experiences.

Philosophy

Sheyes of Miami is dedicated to providing a warm and loving family environment for children. With our smaller classroom sizes, we are able to give quality, individualized care to families at affordable prices.  We also offer various discounts and vouchers to help with the overall cost of childcare.

For a child with special needs, we work to provide the best care possible, while helping the family explore all additional resources to enhance the child’s well-being. As we view our Centers as a family, the importance of family bonds cannot be understated; siblings are encouraged to interact with one another, and we want everyone involved - children, parents, and staff alike - to feel like they are part of our extended family. Children here are encouraged to be children; we do not believe they are small adults. The individual progress, growth, and development of every child is important to us. The environment at our Centers promote learning while having fun in the process. Through a mixture of hands-on experiences, group activities, and individual play, our children develop the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical skills necessary for all aspects

of life and growth.

Parent comments / suggestions are encouraged and are taken into serious consideration as we continually adapt to new challenges. The children are not the only ones who are engaged in the learning experience - all of our staff and parents also learn from the children.

Goals

As caregivers, we play an important role in the development of our children.
